First Impressions
The hotel feels elegant without ever feeling intimidating.
Warm timber finishes, neutral interiors and classic Cape architecture create an atmosphere that’s both luxurious and relaxed. It’s the kind of place where you immediately want to unpack, pour a glass of wine and forget what time it is.
Our room overlooked the vineyards, with a balcony that quickly became our favourite spot for a slow morning coffee.
The Wine Tasting
No visit to Meerendal is complete without spending time in the tasting room.
The tasting is approachable enough for newcomers while still offering plenty for seasoned wine lovers. The team were knowledgeable, welcoming and happy to chat through each wine without making the experience feel overly formal.
One of the things we appreciated most was how relaxed the tasting felt. There was no sense of being rushed, giving us time to enjoy each pour properly before moving on to the next.
Dinner at 1702 Heritage Kitchen
Dinner is served at 1702 Heritage Kitchen, located on the estate.
The restaurant perfectly complements the rest of the experience. Thoughtful plating, seasonal ingredients and a warm atmosphere make it feel like far more than just “the hotel restaurant.”
Combined with a bottle of wine from the estate, it rounded off the evening beautifully.
Slow Mornings Done Properly
If we had to choose our favourite moment of the stay, it would probably be the morning.
There’s something incredibly special about waking up in the Winelands, making a coffee, stepping out onto the balcony and watching the estate slowly come to life.
Breakfast afterwards felt generous and unhurried—the perfect ending before heading back to Cape Town.
Why We’d Return
So many overnight stays focus on adding more to your itinerary.
