Last checked 30 July 2026.
Winter is the only time this part of the world feels like it belongs to you. No queues at the tasting room. Fires going by four. Rates that make a Tuesday lunch feel like a reasonable decision rather than an event.
Every special below is one we’ve checked ourselves against the venue or a current source. Where something couldn’t be confirmed, we say so rather than quietly leaving it out. Prices and dates move, so always confirm when you book.
Sorted into three sections: places to stay, places to eat, and wine worth going out of your way for.
Expiring first
If you’re only going to do one thing, do one of these. They stop on 31 August.
Doolhof in Wellington. Vergenoegd Löw’s steak lunch. Lievland’s R150 lunch. L’Ami at La Motte. Hazendal’s fireside pairings. Terrarium’s five courses. Jan Harmsgat. Camissa Farm. Leipzig. The Grand Hotel. Wilde Vy.
Everything else runs into September or later.
Stay

Jordan Wine Estate, Stellenbosch
Winter Romance Getaway, R6,005 for two
One night in a Poolside suite, a five-wine tasting each, a bottle of Jordan Cap Classique waiting in the room, a 60-minute full body massage each, a dinner basket for two on your private patio, and breakfast at The Cellar Door the next morning.
Worth being precise about two things. The massage is one each, not a couples treatment in the same room. And dinner is a basket delivered to your patio, not a table in a restaurant. At six thousand rand you want to know that going in.
If that’s more than you wanted to spend, the Winter Warmer is the same night with the same tasting, dinner basket and breakfast, minus the massage and with a bottle of estate wine instead of the Cap Classique. From R3,625 for a Poolside suite.
Both run to 30 September. Book at least 24 hours ahead. Prices climb by suite grade, so specify Poolside or you’ll be about a thousand rand out.
Stellenbosch Kloof Road, Stellenbosch. suites@jordanwines.com or 021 881 3441. Worth knowing: Uber will get you there but the estate can’t promise one will collect you again.
Leipzig Country House & Winery, Nuy Valley
Stay three nights, pay for two
Plus breakfast and a wine tasting voucher. They’re the only property on the whole Robertson Winter Warmers list that gets an extra inclusion thrown in, which tells you something.
A two-hundred-year-old working wine farm with seventeen luxury rooms, a three-bedroom self-catering house, a historic cellar and a chapel. They make their own wine under the Leipzig label and run tractor trips through the vineyards. Dinner is a three-course set menu at R435 a head, booked separately, served in the 1893 cellar.
Runs to 31 August. You have to book direct and quote “Robertson Winter Warmers” to get it, so don’t go through a booking site.
Worth being accurate about the geography: it’s in the Nuy Valley outside Worcester, marketed under Robertson, about ninety minutes from Cape Town on Route 62. Not Robertson town.
Nuy Valley Road, Nuy Valley, Worcester. 023 347 8422 or info@leipzig.co.za.
De Waenhuis, Tulbagh
Pay for two nights, stay for three
A restored coach house on Tulbagh’s historic Church Street, turned into a one-bedroom self-catering cottage for two. Loft bedroom, fireplace in the lounge, proper kitchen with a Nespresso and an air fryer, private courtyard, wood-fired hot tub and a splash pool. Adults only, and only ever two of you.
Standard rate is R2,000 a night, currently listed at R1,500.
Runs to the end of September, which puts it among the longest-running offers here. Book direct on stay@dewaenhuis.co.za.
20 Church Street, Tulbagh. Check in from 3pm, out by 10am.
Camissa Farm, Banhoek Valley
Pay for two nights, stay for three
A small working farm high on the mountainside between Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, about eight minutes out of town, looking across at Simonsberg. Camissa means “place of sweet water”.
Every unit has a hot tub, a fireplace, a kitchen and a mountain view. The cabins take two or three people, the Bed in the Shed takes four, and Camissa Cottage takes six. Rooms start at R2,850 a night, and the three-bedroom Camissa Cabin is R5,100 through August before it jumps to R6,820 in September.
They’re self-catering, so plan for that. Bartinney’s tasting shed is a kilometre and a half up the road and Café Pavé is close by.
Runs to 31 August.
Camissa Cabin books through Lifetree Escapes, info@lifetree-escapes.co.za or 060 651 2306 on WhatsApp. Other units through camissafarm.com. Check in from 2pm, out by 11am.
Jan Harmsgat, Robertson Wine Valley
R2,200 per couple per night, including dinner, breakfast and a bottle of wine
The best value on this entire page, and it isn’t close.
A family-run farm dating to 1723 at the foot of the Langeberg, where dry Little Karoo air meets the cool coming off the coast. They grow pomegranates, make single-block wines from vineyard parcels no bigger than six hectares, and produce their own cheeses, which turn up after dinner and again at breakfast.
Dinner is at Just Amy, set in a pecan orchard. Three rotating set menus, and the chefs pick which one to cook each night so nobody staying more than a night eats the same thing twice. Ask for the Boere Benedict at breakfast.
Rooms run from four-poster kings in the original 1700s Cape Dutch building to suites with private entrances in the 1800s house next door.
Runs to 31 August.
On the R60 between Swellendam and Bonnievale, at the southern end of the Robertson Wine Valley. Books through janharmsgat.com or WhatsApp.
The Grand Hotel, Robertson
Two offers, and which one wins depends on how long you’re going for.
Stay three nights, pay for two. A third off, if you’ve got the time.
Or 20% off, any length of stay. Better if you’re only going for a night or two.
You can’t combine them, and neither stacks with anything else, so work out which suits your dates before you book. Both run 1 May to 31 August, any day of the week.
The hotel sits on White Street in the middle of Robertson town, which makes it a sensible base for the Breede Valley estates rather than somewhere you drive out to and stay put. There’s a restaurant on site.
If you want something more structured, they also run a Romance & Adventure package with a game drive and cellar tour, and a Golf Getaway with a nine-hole round. Neither publishes a price, so you’d need to ask.
28 White Street, Robertson. 079 826 1961 or reservations@thegrandhotel.co.za. Books through NightsBridge.
Grande Provence, Franschhoek
25% off the Owners Cottage and Vineyard Suites
And it isn’t just the room. The rate includes a three-course dinner at The Oak, breakfast, a bottle of wine and a tasting on the estate.
Minimum stay applies. Runs to 30 September, which makes it one of the longest-running offers here.
ownerscottage@grandeprovence.co.za or 084 237 6330.
Doolhof, Wellington
R6,000 for one night. R9,800 for two.
Full body massages for both of you, lunch at Mila, a two-course dinner and a wine tasting.
Wellington is quietly the best value valley in the Cape right now and almost nobody writes about it.
Runs 1 July to 31 August.
Brookdale Estate, Paarl
Manor House from R3,525 per person per night
Minimum two nights, and stay four nights to pay for three.
Then on Thursdays there’s Fire & Wine at The Bistro, a rotating flame-grilled menu with a glass of Mason Road wine included. Prawn nights, bistecca nights, burger nights. It changes week to week, so ask what’s on when you book.
087 183 3919 or info@brookdale-estate.com.
Eat

Asoka, Kloof Street
Three courses, R295
The cheapest genuinely good dinner in this article, and it’s ten minutes from town.
Asoka is the one with the olive tree growing up through the middle of it, one of the oldest in Cape Town. Candlelit, converted twentieth-century building, rooftop deck facing Table Mountain. The menu is Asian-leaning and organised around five elements: Earth, Wind, Water, Fire and Nirvana. Gochujang Korean fried chicken, seared teriyaki beef fillet, fish tempura with wasabi mayo.
Available Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. Your carousel probably told you three days. It’s four.
No published end date, so confirm when you book. Open daily from 6pm, kitchen runs to midnight. There’s no online booking, so it’s a phone call or a WhatsApp.
Worth timing around the music. Live jazz Tuesdays from 8pm rolling into deep house until 2am, DJs Wednesday to Saturday from 9, quieter jazz on Sundays.
68 Kloof Street, Gardens. 021 422 0909, or WhatsApp 082 775 4945.
Terrarium, V&A Waterfront
Five courses, R695
Inside the Queen Victoria Hotel, not in town proper, which trips people up.
Chris Erasmus is chef patron, previously of Foliage. The kitchen is built around low-waste cooking, small fisheries, family-owned butcheries and unusual cuts. The winter menu runs: house sourdough with butters, kingklip with charred leek and vadouvan, a garden sorbet, roasted venison loin with beetroot and black garlic, then Tanzanie dark chocolate with cranberry and chai.
Daily, seatings between 6pm and 9pm. Dinner only.
Runs to 31 August, so this is one of the ones with weeks rather than months left.
There’s no wine pairing on the R695 menu. Pairings exist on their eight-course tasting menus, which are a different night and a different price.
Queen Victoria Hotel, 5 Portswood Road, V&A Waterfront. 021 427 5940 or terrarium@queenvictoriahotel.co.za. Books through Dineplan.
Bistro Sixteen82 at Steenberg, Constantia
Two deals, and the cheaper one is the evening.
Lunch: five sharing plates, R750 for two. Or R1,280 with the wine. Take the wine version. It comes with the Canvas Collection Blanc, Semillon and Nebbiolo, and the whole point of eating on a wine farm is drinking what they make.
The five: zucchini and chive soup with breadsticks, pickled fish tacos, crumbed baked brie with pear and popping candy, mushroom and beef carpaccio with sticky rice and furikake, then slow-cooked springbok with creamy polenta and apricot atchar. Vegetarian swaps on two of them.
Evenings: Tapas for Two, five plates, R565. Daily from 5pm to 8.30pm. Same kitchen, same view, a hundred and eighty five rand less. If you’re deciding between the two, this is the one nobody tells you about.
Dessert isn’t included in either, which catches people out.
Both run to 30 September. The bistro sits among the vines under Steenberg mountain looking across the Constantia valley toward False Bay. Kerry Kilpin runs the kitchen.
Steenberg Farm, Steenberg Road. 021 205 3866 or reservations@bistro1682.co.za.
Woodlands Eatery, Gardens
50% off pizza on Mondays. 50% off pasta on Wednesdays.
Not a winter special, just their standing weekly deal, which means it’s still here in October when everything else has gone.
A neighbourhood Italian in a double-storey house near Gardens. Wooden floors, family photographs on the walls. Handmade pasta and wood-fired pizza, and a slow-cooked lamb ragù that’s the reason most people come back.
Two more things they don’t shout about. Tuesdays you get a complimentary beer or glass of wine with a main. And their Sagra nights are five courses with five wines at R495 a head, booking essential.
8 Brede Street, Gardens. 063 710 4742. Open daily midday to 10pm.
Lievland Café, Klapmuts
A seasonal dish with a glass of Lievland wine, R150
The cheapest winelands lunch on this page, and it isn’t a compromise.
Monday to Friday from midday. Runs to 31 August.
Glen Carlou, Klapmuts
Three courses, R425 a head, plus a complimentary bottle of estate wine for every two people
That’s the whole deal. There isn’t a catch and we looked for one.
Daily, all day. Booking recommended. No published end date, so call.
021 875 5528.
Geuwels at Vergenoegd Löw, Stellenbosch
Winter Steak Lunch, R325
The chef’s steak of the day with a glass of estate wine included.
Monday to Friday, lunch only. Runs to 31 August.
Vergenoegd is the one with the runner ducks, which is worth arriving early for.
021 843 3248, or through Dineplan.
L’Ami at La Motte, Franschhoek
R494 for two courses. R595 for three.
Cooked over open fire, and a glass of La Motte Reserve Collection comes with both the starter and the main. Two glasses, included. That’s unusual at this price.
Wednesday to Sunday, lunch and dinner. Runs to 31 August.
021 876 9130 or lami.restaurant@la-motte.co.za.
beyond at Buitenverwachting, Constantia
Four courses, R690
Peter Tempelhoff’s menu, built around Western Cape ingredients, with the vineyard directly outside.
Tuesday to Saturday. Runs to 24 September, so it outlives most of this list.
A deposit is required to hold the table, refundable up to 48 hours before.
Wilde Vy Bistro, Durbanville
Three courses, R595
Potato and leek soup, Sicilian fregola risotto, slow-roasted lamb rib, then chocolate fondant or apple mille-feuille.
Live jazz on Thursday evenings, which is the night to go.
Runs to 31 August.
064 643 9766 or reservations@wildevybistro.com.
Lunacy Wine, District Six
Date Night, R666 per couple, every Wednesday
Three dishes and a bottle of wine.
Not the winelands, and not pretending to be. It’s a wine bar on Harrington Street that set out to build an upscale wine bar and, in their words, ended up with a wine dive bar restaurant. Mostly South African list with some international. Fireplace.
A whole date night for the price of one main course in Franschhoek.
Tuesday to Sunday from 4pm. Closed Mondays. Phone to book, this one lives on Instagram rather than a website.
48 Harrington Street. 076 473 9821.
Wine

Spier, Stellenbosch
The Winter Table, R180
A three-course seasonal pairing with the 21 Gables range. The cheapest good thing in this entire article.
Runs to 30 September. Booking essential.
021 809 1147 or winetasting@spier.co.za.
Hazendal, Stellenbosch
Fireside pairings from R165
Cape Malay chicken curry with the Bottelary Hills Sauvignon Blanc at R165. Beef bourguignon with the Syrah at R185.
In the Wine Lounge, by the fire, which is the entire point.
Runs 15 July to 31 August.
Steenberg, Constantia
Vintner’s Breakfast, R405
Breakfast, a glass of Steenberg Sparkling Sauvignon Blanc and a tasting in the Tasting Room.
Served 9am to 11am only, which is a narrow window and the reason most people miss it. Runs to 30 September.
Wine before eleven, on a Tuesday, is a completely reasonable thing to do in winter.
021 205 3866 or reservations@bistro1682.co.za.
One more thing
We check these ourselves. Where a venue’s own site was down or a price appeared in two places with two numbers, we say so rather than picking the prettier one. Where we couldn’t confirm something at all, it isn’t on this page.
If a special has changed by the time you get there, tell us and we’ll fix it.
We post these as we find them, usually before they make it onto a page like this. Follow @thecapeedit.
